The R-word

Spread the Word to End the Word is a National Awareness Day to raise awareness of the hurtful effects of the word “retard(ed)” and encourage people to pledge to stop using it. On 31 March 2009, young people across the country will lead local efforts to raise awareness and collect pledges from peers and the community to vow not to use the R-word.
Please take the opportunity to look at this sight. So many people are affected by the mis-use of this word.
I personally always correct anyone who uses this word inappropriately. Parents should teach their children, teachers should speak out, anyone should be corrected. This is no different then using the N-word to define an African-American person. So how silly would it be if we started calling our car the N-word, or how about a movie or a TV show. It just makes no sense and it is hurtful to many wonderful people.
So please take the time and spread the word.
